On April 13th 2010, Laga Handbags was given the opportunity of a lifetime, we were featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show. The theme that day was “Give Gifts that Give Back”, and was presented by Malaak Compton-Rock; philanthropist, founder of The Angel Rock Project, and wife of comedian Chris Rock.

While our segment on the show lasted a mere 10 seconds of realtime, Malaak delivered an eloquent and concise breakdown of what we at Laga are all about, and public response was awe inspiring. We started Laga 4 years ago with 12 women working in our small factory, and have been able to increase job availability to 300 positions since then. With the awareness we have gained from Malaak and Oprah’s interest in our cause, we are confident we will be able to continue to grow and affect more lives throughout 2010 and beyond.

We have been exchanging emails and correspondence with Malaak Compton-Rock for years, attempting to find a time and a place to meet up and we could not be happier that we finally were able to meet and speak with her in person to share our vision with her. Thank you Malaak, for sharing our vision with the world!
